Take a look at the above picture.

What you are looking at is a picture of a Hugh Tracey                                      E-Kalimba

Some call it an eKalimba or Electric Kalimba or Electronic Kalimba. I like to call it the 'eLectronified' Kalimba.

Officially The Hugh Tracey E-Kalimba is called the...
             Hugh Tracey ALTO w/Pickup.

Most people just call it the
      E-Kalimba or eKalimba

The pickups which help you connect to an amplifier are Piezo-electric devices mounted near the center of the sound board at an optimal location.

S
ome significant drilling is involved in the board and must
be done to
exacting specifications so the jack stays tight
and eliminates static.

The Hugh Tracey E-Kalimbas jack holes are drilled by MasterCraftsman in Grahamstown, South Africa.

The jack is set into a hole drilled at the head of the sound board.
In such a position, they sense the vibration  transmitted to the bridge plate and then to the wooden soundboard.

            The advantages are threefold:

FIRST - finger noise as well as musical vibrations are eliminated.

SECOND - the sound is a more natural sound
(as natural as an amplified sound can get).

THIRD - the 1/4 inch jack is inserted on the end which is away from your stomach when you are playing the Kalimba
so the cord is out of the way  when you play. You can now jump around all over the stage in concert.

I
f you weren't looking for the jack, you might not know it
was there.

My name is Kalimba Karl...
I have been playing the Hugh Tracey Kalimba for over
20 years.   I specialize in absolutely nothing but the
... Hugh Tracey Kalimba

From this site, you can purchase an Original Hugh Tracey E-Kalimba  at a price so reasonable it will
take away your breath.

The Hugh Tracey E-Kalimba is the electrified original Kalimba made by African Musical Instruments (AMI)
in Grahamstown, South Africa.

But when you take a standard guitar cord and plug it into the jack of your Hugh Tracey E-Kalimba and the other end into an amplifier, a DI box, PA system, or an Effects Processor... Watch Out!

    - New, Awesome, Electric High-Energy
               Musical Sounds Come Alive
-

The field of "Electric Kalimba with effects processing" is
now wide open for people to create groundbreaking, unique, original musical sounds.

And not only that, but by plugging the E-Kalimba into an amplifier you can now crank-up the volume and be heard
over the drummer.

The acoustic sound is mellow, soft and sweet.

Unplugged, you can now practice while others in your household are watching TV without disturbing them.

But just plug this baby into an amplifier and start making some electrified "killer" kalimba riffs.

The time is ripe for someone to come along and pioneer the E-Kalimba.

Not since Peter Frampton
in the late 1970's (with his pioneering use of the talk-box guitar effect) has there been something this futuristic.

The 15-note E-Kalimba has the same note layout as the
Alto Kalimba,

(two octaves of the G major scale).

The ALTO w/pickup, aka E-Kalimba, has a resonant box.
The fingering holes on the bottom allow you to make
the Hugh Tracey signature wa-wa sound.

The E-Kalimba resonant board is made from the finest of a rare indigenous African hardwood...

- An exotic, resonant African hardwood called - Kiaat.

* Kiaat wood gives the Hugh Tracey E-Kalimba a deep, rich, organic beauty.

*
Kiaat wood gives the Hugh Tracey E-Kalimba a soothing,
pleasant tonality
and gives the instrument a full, natural
resonant sound

While the body of The Hugh Tracey E-Kalimba is made from kiaat wood, the notes (tines) are made from a resilient spring steel.

The spring steel tines last forever... and  the instrument requires almost no maintenance.

The Hugh Tracey E-
Kalimba you play today could be played
by your great grandchildren.

The Alto w/pickup model is a favorite of the Hugh Tracey E-Kalimbas. The large tines are easy to play, and the two octave setup from low G to high G is simple to understand.

This E-Kalimba comes pre-tuned in the scale of G-Major and can be tuned to any scale simply by sliding some of the tines up or down.

It is a deep toned E-Kalimba and can be used to accompany   piano, guitar, bass, horns, singing or played as a solo instrument.

While other brand kalimbas come out of tune during extended play,
the quality engineering of the bridge mechanism allows this finely-crafted instrument to stay in tune, even when 'jamming' hard-core up on stage with a band.

Hugh Tracey Kalimbas are still proclaimed world-wide as the best. The Hugh Tracey E-Kalimba is more than just a kalimba...  It is a legend.

When you play one, everybody knows you are special.

You are admired by women and envied by men.
